Op 09 maart 2012 heeft al weer de 18e Supervisory Board meeting plaatsgevonden. Helaas was ik afwezig in verband met een begrafenis van mijn schoonmoeder. Centraal thema van deze meeting waren de resultaten van 2011, die een stuk minder goed waren dan de resultaten in 2010, maar stukken beter dan van het rampjaar 2009. Gorenje heeft het, net als andere Europese witgoedfabrikanten, erg zwaar. Vooral de markten waarop Gorenje traditioneel sterk is, Oost Europa, wordt slecht gepresteerd. Alleen de concurrenten Arcelik, BSH en Samsung draaien relatief goed. Zij hebben vooral hun prijzen flink verlaagd. Hoewel de totale markt iets is gegroeid, houden witgoedspelers nog steeds last van onzekerheid op diverse locale markten.

Gorenje wint drie prestigieuze prijzen (de Plus X Awards 2011) in Duitsland. Met de Gorenje+ oven heeft Gorenje de prijs in de wacht gesleept dankzij de innovatieve iChef+ elektronische besturingsmodule, maar ook vanwege de hoge kwaliteit, design excellence en gebruiksvriendelijkheid (simplicity of use). De derde Plus X award 2011 is verkregen voor Gorenje’s RedSet (WA72149RD) wasmachine.

Overigens is dit niet de eerste prijs die Gorenje verkreeg met haar innovatieve iChef-besturing voor haar oven. Zo verkreeg Gorenje voor deze innovatie ook de internationale Red Dot Design Award. De besturingsmodule is een redelijk grote full-colour touch-screen dat zeer eenvoudige bediening mogelijk maakt.

The jury for the international Plus X Award, consisting of reputable independent experts from across Europe, presented the Plus X Award for innovation, high quality, excellence of design, and simplicity of use to the oven with innovative iChef+ electronic control module. Gorenje’s iChef+ electronic control module has already won this year’s honourable mention at the international Red Dot Design Awards contest, and Slovenian award Design of the Year
The innovative oven, model GO896X, was also declared product of the year in the category of ovens. The oven impressed the jury with its innovative slide control which allows a user experience similar to that offered by modern consumer electronics devices. The user enters the main menu by touching the screen, and then chooses between different programs and cooking functions by touching the corresponding colour photos and icons. The oven also boasts innovative cavity design with highly efficient heater placement in several levels, and many user functions that make excellent cooking results easy. The award-winning oven also offers large volume (65 liters) and large cooking surface (46 cm) which is one of the largest in the market.
Gorenje RedSet washing machine (WA72149RD) won the Plus X Award 2011 for excellence of design, simplicity of use, and environmental friendliness. The jury was convinced by the efficient AquaStop support against water damage, automatic quantity control for low water consumption and energy efficient 17-minute QuickWash cycle. Triple A-30%AA label for efficient use of energy and washing and spinning effects ranks the appliance among the most efficient in the market. Water consumption amounts to no more than 49 liters per washing cycle; in addition, the machine features a special self-cleaning program called SterilTub which heats the water to 80 or 95 °C to deliver perfect hygiene in your washing machine. Het jaarverslag van Gorenje is beschikbaar in pdf format met natuurlijk een speciaal hoofdstuk vanuit de RvC. We hebben een klein passage gewijd aan de aantijgingen door een ‘activistische’ aandeelhouder.
Wat dat betreft is Gorenje voor Oost-Europese begrippen zeer open. Niet verwonderlijk is dat Gorenje in 2010 nog de “Best 2009 Annual Report Award” kreeg in de categorie communicatie; zie persbericht.

On 11th of march, we had the 7th Supervisory Board. Key theme was the result of 2010, that are much better than in 2009. Although demand for appliances somewhat improved in key markets, it remains difficult to improve performances due to higher costs of raw materials. Gorenje acquires ASKO
Gorenje concluded a contract on the acquisition of a 100 percent ownership stake in Scandinavian based company Asko Appliances Group. The acquisition of the top-level Swedish provider of household appliances is a strategic match. Several important synergies are achieved for both companies with the possibility of a faster growth. Gorenje is thereby realising its strategy as a fast growing pan-European player.
Asko Appliances Group is a Sweden based company with manufacturing and sales of large household appliances for mainly the upper market segments. Its own production comprises dishwashers, washing machines and tumble dryers in Vara, Sweden and cookers, ovens and cold irons in Lahti, Finland. Brands are ASKO, positioned in the high-end segment, and UPO in the mid-end. The ASKO brand also comprises a niche range of professional products for the semi commercial market, which is a growing business area with high potentials.
